The XXX is the new daring category of Discarded Magazine showcasing new contemporary erotic photography which is curated by Linda Zhengová. Besides an online platform that features best submissions from our themed open calls, The XXX is also a bi-annual printed magazine.
When we think about the word “erotic”, immediately connotations of sex, explicit content, and perhaps something dirty or to some extent forbidden to be fully seen comes to our mind.
But is it really so? I believe that erotic imagery spans beyond sex and can cross well-established boundaries and associations. It provokes us, it pierces us, it arouses us. The idea of what photography does to us instead of what it is, is the exciting part about the medium and I find it incredibly important to support this genre and make a pathway for it in visual culture.
Exposure to such imagery has a freeing effect; it allows us to freely imagine and project our unconstrained desires. We all have them but tend to hide them too much. Now, it’s time to give space to our real selves, and that is something Discarded Magazine encourages from the very beginning.
For now, we are presenting you with an online exhibition of the artists selected for our upcoming first print issue.
