Kateřina Saparová is the co-founder and financial director of Prague Pride. Together with Luboš Y. Koláček, they wrote a chapter about her and her journey to Prague Pride for Bohemian Taboo Stories.
Kateřina was born in České Budějovice. Everyone would like to live in České Budějovice. Kateřina lived there for twenty years. As a child, she either climbed trees or played teacher. But only until she started school. After that, it was all tree climbing. She graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Administration in Brno and met her first gay while publishing the school magazine. Since 2002 she has lived in Prague.
First she worked for five years in the promotion of the National Technical Museum, later as head of the education department. In a way, this brought her back to the "teaching" and she stayed with it as coordinator of educational programs. It was also at the National Technical Museum that she met a woman who helped her change her perspective on her sexuality. After leaving the museum, she worked at People in Need, where she was in charge of the Stories of Injustice project, which teaches students about the communist era. There she met her current wife. In 2016, their son Theodor was born.
In 2010, she was at the beginning of Prague Pride. At that time, the team was half foreigners living in Prague and half Czechs. And the disagreements about what Prague Pride should look like were great. The first year was great and it was clear that it would become a tradition of a summer gay festival. After three years, Prague Pride started to gradually add more activities. Pride Business Forum - a platform for inter-company discussion about LGBT equality in the workplace. Sbarvouven - an online counselling service for LGBT people in need. Fun&Run - a charity run against homophobia and AIDS. Parent Prep - a series of workshops for LGB people planning to start a family. And last but not least, he is a member of the For Marriage Coalition, which promotes marriage for gay and lesbian couples in the Czech Republic. Kateřina has been in charge of finances in the association from the beginning and between 2015 and 2017 she managed the Prague Pride festival. She has been the financial director ever since.
2019, Bohemian Taboo Stories, co-author of the text for the Prague Pride chapter.
