Daniel Kurz / Czechia

He says of himself, "I graduated from hotel school as a waiter/chef, so I have no artistic background. However, I've been drawing since I was a kid, and I used to draw under Professor Klatov at the Ludus School. Later I took portrait classes at Hollarka, because I wanted to study there. They didn't take me, so I went to work as a pingl. After school, at the civil school at Matfyz, I sniffed computer graphics and stayed with it. I've been doing all sorts of things, I've been doing graphics for bands from metal to pop for many years. I've also done commercials, I was employed by Mark BBDO for 4 years as an art director, so that's stuck with me too. About three years ago I met David Karon, an American who owns a guitar pedal company with Kirk Hammett from Metallica and they brought me into the party as a designer. Which I consider a great success, because I've been after something like that for a long time, and it finally worked out. So I've had the opportunity to do pedal designs for Metallica, Gojira, Tool, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse and a bunch of other bands I'm working on at the moment. I've always wanted to work for such big names and now I can, so it's a dream job.

I've been through a few bands myself, only the 25th Avenue Courtesans are working at the moment. My home band Atari Terror is currently dormant and Nostrrrömo is on ice too. Right now, though, I'm mostly trying to be the best possible photographer for our two impeccable kids, and that's what's taking up most of my free time at the moment. I love collaborating on the Bohemian Taboo Stories book, because it always makes me happy when a stranger approaches me because they like what I'm doing. On top of that, working for Bohemian Taboo promised that no one would strangle my imagination and I could do my dark, weird stuff. And that's always nice."
